Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a condition where the normal drainage of spinal fluid circulating through the brain is reduced, often for unknown reasons. Too much fluid builds up, putting pressure on the brain. Symptoms can include memory loss and problems with walking and bladder control.
It’s unclear how many people with memory loss have NPH. The condition can sometimes be treated by surgery to place a tube in the brain to drain excess fluid.
