Need information on Alzheimer’s? For people concerned about memory loss, as well as for researchers and family or professional caregivers, the U.S. National Institute on Aging’s Alzheimer’s Disease Education and Referral (ADEAR) Center may be able to help. Through its website, phone calls, internet chat and other communications, the Center handled approximately 70,000 requests for information in 2009.
The site also has a searchable database, ADLib, with descriptions of and availability information for over 8000 publications. ADEAR is constantly adding to this database, with an emphasis on free or low-cost print and online items that professionals as well as the general public can easily obtain. ADLib also includes an online thesaurus of search terms to help database searchers find the resources they need.
If you need help sorting through all this information, you can contact one of ADEAR’s Information Specialists via phone, email, mail or internet chat (see contact info below). These English and Spanish-speaking Specialists can:
- recommend the most relevant online and print publications for your situation
- perform internet searches for you
- refer you to national and local resources as well as clinical trials.
The Specialists cannot provide medical advice.
If you’re in the Washington, DC area, you may also want to call to make an appointment to visit the ADEAR library, where a librarian can help you with your information search.
